Energy Efficient Light bulbs
So we all see advertisements everyday. We see them everywhere. So I was just thinking, I don't think I have ever seen an advertisement for energy efficient light bulbs. I'm sure there are some out there. But really, something as important as helping save our planet, and barely any advertisements for them. Although many people do use them now, maybe with a little more advertising a lot more people will begin using them.

Go Melissa R.
So....I know there a lot of people who hate the show The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll. I'm not a fan (AT ALL) of the Pussycat dolls themselves, and I won't care what happens with the winner of the show, but I am sadly addicted to watching it every week. So there's 3 left. I just wanted to show my support for my favourite contestant. I really hope she wins. She totally deserves it (although I don't get why she wants it to begin with). GO MELISSA R.:) If she loses, it's gotta because she's too awesome for The Pussycat Dolls.

Television Shows
So....when I think back to my childhood, and what I watched on T.V. back then, the first show that pops into my mind is Bobby's World. It was definitely my favourite show as a kid. I also watched a lot of Care Bears, The Flintstones and The Jetsons. As I got older I became interested in shows like Power Rangers, Full House and Saved By The Bell. I remember playing Power Rangers too. All the girls always wanted to be the pink one. lol, oh to only be a kid again:P. Now I watch a variety of different shows of different genres. My favourite shows right now are Grey's Anatomy, Heroes and America's Next Top Model(GO NATASHA);).My all time favourite show is Friends and I don't think that will ever change. I think television has affected my life in many ways. First of all, it gives ya something to do when you are bored. :P Second, television can be educational at times. I've for sure learned some pretty interesting facts while watching T.V.. Even if they are usually pointless facts. Also, there have been times where I have seen a catchy commercial and decided to go out and buy the product. Television also sometimes affects the conversations I have with my friends. If we watch the same shows it tends to be a topic in our conversations. Without T.V., when major things happen in the world, it would take more time for people to know about it. And reading about something and seeing it live on T.V. is so different. It's so much more intense on T.V. I can't really imagine what life without T.V. would be like.

Rachel McAdams
(Isn't she cute:P?)
Just a little post about my favourite actress, Rachel McAdams. I'm not sure why but I think she is just awesome.:P
Rachel was born on October 7, 1978, in London Ontario and grew up in St.Thomas Ontario(makes her even cooler). Her mother, Sandra, was a nurse and her father, Lance, was a truck driver. She has a younger brother named Daniel and a younger sister named Kayleen. At age 13, Rachel began acting at a summer theater camp. During high school, she attended Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in St. Thomas. After high school, Rachel went to York University in Toronto, where she graduated with honours and BFA degree in theater. Although Rachel had a pretty large role in the movie The Hot Chick, her career really took off when she played the character of Regina George in the very popular teen movie Mean Girls. Following Mean Girls, she starred in The Note Book with hottie Ryan Gosling, who she later started dating. She is also in other AWESOME movies such as Wedding Crashers, Red Eye, and The Family Stone. All of which are really good movies, if I do say so myself. The Note Book is by far my favourite "chick flick" ever. In 2005 at the MTV movie awards Rachel won 3 awards and was nominated for 5. Rachel is currently living in Toronto and is still dating Ryan.(as far as I know). Hopefully there will be some new Rachel McAdams movies soon.

Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath was an American poet, novelist, short story writer, and essayist. Sylvia was born on October 23, 1932 in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts to her mother, Emile Plath and her father, Aurelia Schober Plath. Sylvia attended Smith College where in her junior year she began to make attempts to take her own life. Following these attempts she was briefly committed to a mental institution where she seemed to make a full recovery. She graduated from Smith College with honours in 1955. She then went on to go to Cambridge University where she pursued poetry. While attending Cambridge she met an English poet named Ted Hughes who she later married on June 16, 1956. In 1957 they both began working in the U.S.A. where Sylvia taught at her former College. Sylvia became pregnant and they decided to move to the U.K.. Plath published her 1st collection of poetry, The Colossus, in 1961. She wrote many other books while she was alive, including some childrens books. On February 11, 1963, Sylvia Plath took her own life. After leaving cookies and milk out for her children and sealing their rooms off with tape, Sylvia placed her head in her oven with the gas turned on. There have been debates on whether or not she meant to kill herself or not. Sylvia wrote journals from the age of 11 until the day she died. Her journals starting from her 1st year at Smith were published in 1980 in a book called "The Journals of Sylvia Plath".

Loose Change 9/11
I have nothing to say about this post. Watch it if you are interested and draw your own conclusions. This movie made see the world in a whole new way.
Extremely Heartwarming
On Sunday night, I was waiting for the new episode of Desperate Housewives to FINALLY come on when I decided to watch the show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Five minutes into the show I had tears in my eyes. The show is about building new homes for American families in need. Like really in need. These aren't your average "poor" family. The families who are chosen have really sad stories about their lives and homes. For example, the episode I most recently watched was about a woman raising her 3 children in a house that literally was missing parts of the walls. The family's plumbing had gotten so bad that they had to use a bag to dispose of you know what after using the toilet because it wouldn't flush. The mother of this family ran a store that sold used medical clothes out of her living room. Although it was called a store, she rarely made people pay for the clothing because she knew that they needed it. This woman also helped raise half a million dollars to help hurricane Katrina survivors. Needless to say, she is an amazing woman. The people in her neighbourhood didn't even know about the conditions her and her family were living in. She never let anyone know. Her and her children are believers in helping others before themselves. If it weren't for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, this family would still be living in a house full of holes. I love that there is at least one show on T.V. that is actually helping people. I think it's amazing what they do for these families. They didn't just build this family a new home, but also they paid of the mortgage and set up college funds for all three children. Well it is a really great show. If you are into things like this, I suggest you check it out.

A Child Called It
A Child Called It is a book about one of the most horrible and severe child abuse cases in the history of California. It is the story of a young boy named David Pelzer, who was brutally beaten and starved by his alcoholic mother. His mother played tortuous games with David. These games at times left him nearly dead. David slept in the basement on an old army cot. He wore the same old dirty clothes everyday. Occasionally he was allowed food but it was no more then small scraps and leftovers from when her family would eat. His father mostly ignored what was being done to David, until he finally left, leaving David and his brothers there alone with her. This book is so sad and very disturbing. Following this book David Pelzer wrote "The Lost Boy" , "A Man Named Dave" and "The Privilege of Youth". David's younger brother Richard also wrote a book of his own about what happened in the house after David was taken away and Richard took the place as the outcast of the family. He became "it". Richard's book is called "A Brother's Journey". I've read almost all of these books and I recommend them to everyone.
Cards For Shane
At almost 5 years old, a young boy named Shane was diagnosed with Acute Lympholblastic Leukemia. 1 month into his treatment he was in early remission. Shane's family was very pleased with the early results, but his protocol called for 130 weeks of treatment. On July 6th, 2006 Shane relapsed after completing 108 of the 130 weeks. It shocking to everyone including his doctors. Shane may have to undergo a bone marrow transplant down the road, but the good thing is that his brother Jacob is a match. At the moment, there is no sign of cancer in Shane's system since relapsing. Shane is now nearly 8 years old. Shane is collecting birthday cards. He has already received thousands and he can always use some more. His birthday is on May 30th. He loves Motorcycles and frogs. And he is also a big Sens fan. Help make this boys birthday wish come true. Cards can be mailed to: SHANEC/O KISS FM2001 Thurston Dr.Ottawa ON, K1G6C9

Who Killed The Electric Car?
Well I didn't see the movie, but after reading up a little on Electric cars on the Internet, I have come so the conclusion that it's about time the electric car makes a comeback. Because I haven't seen the movie, I don't really have much of an opinion on the subject. But I do enjoy documentaries, so maybe I'll rent it or something sometime, so I can get all the information.

25 Women & 1 Guy....
The show the bachelor is about 25 women fighting to win the heart of one man. What makes this man special from other guys? Who knows. But for some reason all of these beautiful young and most often successful women are demeaning themselves on television in order to get this guy to fall in love with them. What self-respected women would want to date a guy while he's dating a bunch of other women at the same time. And to have to live with these other women. And to do all of this on national televison. What is wrong with these girls? Not to mention the awkwardness in the relationship he has with that women who wins his heart. I would think it would be a little awkward knowing that up until the very second you became engaged, he was dating at least one other woman. Do you really think that a man who thinks it okay for him to pick and chose through a bunch of women to find a wife is going to be faithful after getting a taste of dating 25 women at once. It's possible but it doesn't seem very promising. I just don't get it. I think these girls should get lives and find a man the right way.

Ring The Bell On Hockey Fights?
In this morning's Kingston Whig-Standard on page 5, was an article about taking fighting out of the NHL. The writer of this article (scout for NHL's Phoenix Coyotes) wrote "Given the size and strength of today's players, if fighting continues, someone will be killed". Seriously, it's not as if the refs would ever allow a fight to continue to a point where someone is going to be killed". Sure there has been incidents where players have been seriously injured fighting. But what about everything else that injures players? I mean, should they take away body contact all together? Even the icing call. Many players have been seriously hurt chasing for the puck in order to get the call. So I guess that should go too.:S and to say that "Someone IS GOING TO BE KILLED? That's a bit far fetched. Like he's guaranteeing it is going to happen? The writer went on to ask "Is hockey entertainment or a sport?" I thought that was the point of sports, to be entertained. For both the players and the spectators. Why else would people have invented sports. Clearly they were bored and wanted to be entertained. He wrote this in response to Don Cherry saying "We gotta play the game, people are paying money, it's entertainment". And it's true. People pay big money to watch their favourite teams play. Of course they want to be entertained. He even states how much the fans love it more than once in the article. I personally know people who will randomly turn on a hockey game in hopes of catching a fight. A game a few years ago a game between the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyer's turned into a huge brawl. The highlights from this game received higher ratings than the game itself. Now would that many people tune in to watch a huge hockey brawl if they didn't want to see fighting? Or if they didn't find it entertaining? I doubt it. The writer also talks about the sizes of the players today. Yes they may be bigger than back in the day, but it's not like you're gonna see a 6"4, 240lbs player go at a 5"11 180lbs guy. I think if anything, if fighting were to be taken out of the league, there would be more incidents with players taking cheap shots and swinging sticks at each other etc. because of frustration. Fighting has always been part of the game. And like Gary Bettman says "fighting is still a part of hockey" and "We've never taken active steps or considered eliminating fighting from the game. I've always taken the view that it's part of the game and it rises and lowers based on what the game dictates". Well since he's the commissioner of the league and all, I'm thinking it should be left at that. The majority of fans and players love it. I know I do. I would be very disappointed if it were to ever go. You can read this article a the following website: If ya notice, the first line of the article is "To fight or nor to fight". Uhhhh what? Nor to fight? That makes sense:S The guy didn't even check for spelling mistakes. http://www.thewhig.com/webapp/sitepages/content.asp?contentid=469912&catname=Opinion%20Columns&classif=Editorials

A Season of Loss, A Lifetime of Forgiveness
A Season of Loss, A Lifetime of Forgiveness: The Dan Snyder and Dany Heatley story.
AUTHOR: JOHN MANASSO
Summary of the book:This book about two boys from different backgrounds touches on family, forgiveness, sports, and making peace with tragedy. For Dan Snyder, success in the sport he loved never came easy, but it always came. He was not a sure thing in professional hockey, but defied the expectation, playing for the NHLs Atlanta Thrashers. Dany Heatley, on the other hand, had been destined for success from the start as a college star and high draft pick. The two became good friends. In September of 2003, the then 22-year-old Heatley lost control of his Ferrari, while driving down a dangerous Atlanta road. Snyder was thrown from the vehicle and died six days later in hospital after developing an infection and never waking from his a coma. The loss of their teammate, friend, and son sent those who knew Snyder searching for meaning and healing. As the legal story unfolds, so does the story of forgiveness. Even as they watched over their son the hospital, the Snyder's provided emotional support to Dany Heatley. Heatley ended up be fined $3,000, $25,000 for the cost of the investigation, 36 months probation and 750 hours of public service which included giving speeches to local school about safe driving. This is one of my favourite books. I cried numerous times while reading it.
The Tragically Hip wrote a song in remembrance of Dan called "Heaven is a Better Place Now"
